Historical Information
In the 1930s, today’s Red House on East Street was known as the Olde Folly Tea Room. The establishment served teas in the garden, while the spacious indoor café hosted tea dances for the village. Patrons entered the Tea Garden via Church Lane, while the café and servants’ entrance were on East Street. Local resident Kath Graham recalled, as a youngster, standing by May’s sweet shop across the road and watching the excitement of people coming and going.
