Historical Information
Macey’s Forge stood on East Street, opposite a terrace of four cottages. In this photograph, blacksmith Fred Macey is shown with Jim Bucksey outside the forge, with a horse and cart at the entrance. The forge stood to the west of Blenheim, with The Court House further to the east. The terrace of four cottages opposite the forge was demolished in the 1950s to make way for Forge House, changing the appearance of this part of East Street. The photograph provides a valuable record of traditional blacksmithing and horse transport in Hambledon before the widespread disappearance of village forges.
