| Rushmere Gate as a modern terrace of five homes with a pleasing retro design. The development stands apart from the predominantly eighteenth- and nineteenth-century architecture of the village and forms part of the mixed-age housing along Green Lane.
Moving north-northwest from Harfield House, Green Lane passes houses ranging from seventeenth-century cottages to twentieth-century housing developments. Stewarts Green and Lashly Meadow are on the east side, while the more modern Rushmere Gate terrace is on the west. Adjacent to the Methodist Chapel is another row of seven attached houses, once known as The Barracks and now simply The Terrace. The photograph therefore records the continuing development of Green Lane and the way newer housing sits within the historic village landscape. |
