Historical Information
This photograph is another view showing the laborious working of the downland fields. It provides a visual record of traditional agricultural work and of the rural landscape surrounding Hambledon before the later changes to roads, housing and settlement along Green Lane.
The image is particularly valuable as a record of the agricultural character of the downland and the physical labour involved in cultivating it. Together with the view of Green Lane from Coombe Down, it helps document the relationship between the historic road network and the open agricultural landscape of the parish.
