Historical Information

The photograph captures the Hambledon Hunt gathering in High Street on Boxing Day, continuing a local tradition of bringing people and horses into the village centre. The People’s Market is visible at the lower end of the street and was then under the proprietorship of F T Briggs.

The scene demonstrates the continued use of High Street not only as a route through the village but also as a place for communal and ceremonial activity. Its broad layout provided space for gatherings of this kind as well as everyday trading.
