Bella Atkinson, grandmother of Jean and Tom Beames, stands outside Hazeldene on East Street, the home of Beames Bakery. She is holding her granddaughter Isobel, sister of Mary-Ann Beames. The photograph was taken shortly after Jean and Tom moved into the bakery in 1951.

Hazeldene on East Street became the home of Beames Bakery when Jean and Tom Beames moved there in 1951. This photograph shows their grandmother, Bella Atkinson, standing outside the property with her granddaughter Isobel, sister of Mary-Ann Beames. The photograph provides a personal glimpse of the Beames family at the beginning of the bakery’s long association with Hazeldene. Beames Bakery remained at the property until it closed in 1988.
