Greenwoods in the 1960s
Tom Greenwood fills up a Ford Mark II Cortina Estate outside Greenwoods on East Street, Hambledon. To the right is the frontage of what used to be called London House, a haberdashery occupied by Mrs H Matthews.

Historical Information
Greenwoods had its origins in Walter Poole’s hairdressing and cycle-agent business. In 1908 Walter Poole expanded the business into motor repairs and petrol sales while continuing to operate his barber’s shop. In 1933 he sold the business to Alfred B Greenwood, whose son Tom took it over in 1951. Tom continued the business until it closed in 1993. This photograph, taken around 1968, shows Tom Greenwood filling a Ford Mark II Cortina Estate outside the garage and petrol station. To the right is the frontage of the former London House, which was occupied by Mrs H Matthews as a haberdashery.
