Historical Information
Knights Saddlery traded from the southwest corner of High Street and West Street, a prominent position subsequently known as Knight’s Corner. The photograph shows Mr W Knight with his two sons outside the premises around 1895.
In 1857 the property was owned by Edward Aburrow, the son of a member of the Hambledon Cricket Club who was nicknamed ‘Curry’. During the twentieth century the premises became a popular café known as The Copper Kettle. The building is now a private residence.
The photograph therefore connects a long-established High Street building with successive phases of village commercial life.
